A three-billion-year-old diamond the size of a tennis ball - the largest discovered in over a century - could sell for as much as $90 million!
The Lesedi la Rona, a 1,109 carat gem-quality rough diamond, is the largest rough diamond currently in existence. Unearthed in November 2015 by Lucara Diamond Corp. in it's Karowe mine in Botswana, it is the largest rough diamond to be discovered since the 3,106,75 carat Cullinan Diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1905.
The name Lesedi la Rona means "our light" in the Tswana language of Botswana. Southeby's calls the diamond a discovery of a lifetime of a lifetime and will auction the amazing diamond in a stand alone auction on June 29. The auction is unprecedented - no rough diamond even remotely of this scale has ever before been offered at public auction.
The diamond could shatter the record price paid for a diamond at auction of $48.5 million set last year for the 12.03 carat polished "Blue Moon" diamond.
